So yesterday, boy what can I even say? I’d been in the house for four straight days with the kids. INSIDE THE HOUSE – NEVER LEAVING kind of “in the house”. Then Ben took me out for drinks last night, and it was decided that I could never really excel at any kind of phobia requiring I go days without fresh air and the blinds be kept drawn.
Anyway, to fill the time between Dora the Explorer and lunch, I checked my Twitter account several hundred times and came across Days with My Father, an outstanding photo essay by Phil Toledan. Very lovely and moving. And if you’re someone with eyes and a warm, beating heart, you will enjoy this.
When I finished reading it and had pulled myself up from my pile of tears and snot, I made Ben come and look. It was then agreed that no one should ever try and write a photo essay about their father again, because it can only suck in comparison to this. People would just say things like Didn’t you hear? Someone already published THEE photo essay on fathers…it’s been done!
Also, I realized we’re only hours away from that week of the year, where I’ll void out perfectly good checks every time I mistakenly write 2009 instead of 2010. So this all got me thinking and wondering about what my favorite photos of 2009 were. Can you guess mine? Here’s a hint…you can bury my cold body with them.
Between naps and the END OF THE DAY, I went over to Dooce’s Community site and asked everyone there what their favorite shot of 2009 was. These are just a few of my favorite pics posted over at Dooce Community: Kim Kelley-Wagner, mstinak and EliBailey.
Do you have a favorite photo that you, or another, shot in 2009? You must. Show me, show me. Don’t be shy; post a link to your favorite photo of 2009 in the comments below. And please people, try and keep it clean. I mean, we’re trying to run a motherfucking family blog here.
Postscript here: thanks to Velma who writes over at A Smeldding Kiss for retweeting Days with My Father. Hey Velma - word.
