My daughters are growing up in an age of text messaging and seedless watermelons. I worry they’ll be too soft; won’t be ready for what the real world’s going to hand them. And then, look, seeds in the ‘seedless’ watermelon! That’s right girls, sometimes life throws you curve balls!
Speaking of balls.

I just figured-out the easiest way to serve up watermelon...I cut the watermelon into halves and then hollow it out with a soup ladle. Like oversized melon balls. It ends up looking like big scoops of ice cream. So much easier than the method my mom used back when we were kids. There she was in the kitchen hacking away at that watermelon, it’s juices rolling down her forearms, onto the counter tops, down the sides' of the cabinets and pooling around her feet.
She’d walk barefoot in waist deep snow for miles to the grocery store just to get that watermelon. Sometimes, the checkout lines were long and she’d have nothing to do but page through magazines. No mobile phone with data service to check her email or Facebook updates! Now, that’s a generation who knew struggle and hardship!
