I don’t know about you, but I’m not a big fan of bath time. I know some parents enjoy bath time, and I suppose they also like getting their sleeves wet up to their elbows and wrestling with slippery toddlers. Bath time reminds me of drinking margaritas...it starts out nice enough but someone always ends up crying.
However, Whitney and Heidi look forward to their luke warm bubble baths. So bath time it is! Unless of course were only talking surface grime, in which case I will usually just rub them down with baby wipes.
Anyway, let me get on with what I actually wanted to tell you.
So a couple of days ago, Whitney melted into a snotty, hysterical mess. Clearly tired I put her down for a nap. Whitney’s been having more temper tantrums lately since her napping became less frequent. She’s almost four and a half and is riding that cusp between a toddler who needs a nap and a young child who can just about make it through the day without one. However, there are those days when the lack of napping catches up to her, and her spine slips out of her back and she squirms around on the floor in a fit of rage until someone in charge puts an end to the madness and sends her to bed.
After putting Whitney down for her nap, I asked Heidi what she wanted to do. Play house? Color? Organize my business receipts? No, none of those. She wanted to take a bubble bath. Hum.
Since I’d only be responsible for the cleaning and safety of one child in that porcelain skull cracker, I decided to try and get some shots. I discovered that the sidewalls of the tub helped to defuse the light. Also, my ‘subject’ couldn’t run away. I think this whole bath time thing just may have moved up on my list of 'Things That Suck Less.'
And now, Ben and I have something to show her future gentlemen suitors.

Your photos? A-MA-ZING
I only have one boy, and i totally agree with you on the bath thing. That's why god gave us wipes!
Thanks Of The Sea...yes, the 'wipe' is holy.
Pretty pics!
I laughed out loud at the Margarita comparison! Also? Your daughter is beautiful.
Cute photos!
I have to say I'm not a real fan of bath time either, and I'll tell you why.
- I work in the evenings after my kids go to bed. I'm always getting behind. I don't have time for long, lingering bath times. If they get toys, I'll never get them out.
- If they stay in too long, they splash too much and I get soaked.
- I'm tired. We played all day. Let's wash and get ready for bed. This is another ploy to NOT go to bed.
My husband will give them toys and let them stay in the bath longer. That's his prerogative. This is his quality time with them. If he wants to, great. Sometimes they say they want Daddy to give them a bath so they can play, and that's perfectly fine with me. I don't get any breaks during the day, so the relief is welcome.
My 3 year old doesn't cry anymore when she gets out of the tub. The 16 month old - well - most times she will scream cause she just wants to play. Funny, she won't go in the pool, where I've offered her toys and time to play. Hmmm....
I'm not an awful mom and neither are you. I'm juggling 2 kids, without help, work and home. I don't think the lack of bathtime play will hurt their development in anyway.
She doesn't have pretty eyes or anything does she?
Lord! Those photos are delicious.
I love your pics! I would say that bathtime was a success in getting those shots. I love that you compare it to drinking margaritas...great stuff!
Aw, thanks Katie and Dana!
