What I don't know about soccer

Let’s begin here: I originally misspelled the word ‘soccer’ in this post's title.

Moving on.

Last night Ben informed me that Mexico had beat France in the World Cup and therefore we were obligated to drink tequila. I obliged. I felt that this was the least I could do for the country of which I called ‘home’ for six months. What can I say? I’m a giver.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a soccer fan, nor do I understand the significance of Mexico’s win yesterday. [O.K. now, enough talk about Mexico’s win, I need to ponder more pressing matters like why I can’t manage to shave off all the hair on the backs of my thighs.]

What I know about soccer:

1. The better the facial bone structure, the better the player. Add a sexy hair cut for bonus points.
2. It’s a lot like fussball except the players bend at the waste, and they can’t drink beer on the field.
3. Soccer players get to wear those plastic Adidas sandals, with tube socks, after they’re done playing. The ones that remind me of the kind of shoes you’d wear if you were to be institutionalized.
4. Less butt patting than in American football.

I’m hoping to learn more about this game over the next four years before the 2014 World Cup. At least enough so that I can add a few more to this list. I just have to work really hard and stay focused.
